Durham
Region Transit
(Ajax-Pickering-Oshawa-Whitby-Clarington,
Ontario)
As
of January 1, 2006 the former transit agencies which consisted of Ajax-Pickering
Transit Authority, Clarington Transit, Oshawa Transit
and Whitby Transit as well as handitrans services were amalgamated into
one regional entity, that entity being Durham Region Transit. With amalgamation
of other transit systems in and around the Greater Toronto Area, the Regional
Municipality of Durham decided to follow suit in order to better provide
transit service to its customers as well as become a bigger transit body
which would receive better funding from the provincial government.
