Bus Industries 05.501 (6640-6745)
Following the delivery of the 25 Orion Vs CNG models TTC put out an order for 106 of these buses. These buses came with a first like the delivery of these buses with vandal resistant seat upholstery and the use of a Detroit Diesel turbo engine. Throughout the past of this bus they have been experiencing problems. Problems such as frame corrosion and transmission problems. It was common to see these buses broken down and towed to the garage before. TTC decided to retrofit the transmission from the ZF model to the Allison model. Two buses 6700 and 6701 were using Bennett transmissions and were also retrofitted. Getting older these buses went in for their 6 year program and are now running fine with fewer breakdowns. UWE connectors were installed after the 6 year rebuild, the UWE connectors allow the bus to be stored outside rather than inside a garage where the line connected to the bus supplies the bus with heat, to keep the interior and engine warm. |
